I really like this photo of Avril. I think it depicts how she could be viewed by the rest of the music world, just her and her guitar. Granted, I'm a fan of most of her music, but at times it can seem a little more 'pop' than 'rock'. I know her target audience is probably the teen genre, but I think she's capable of so much more and can expand her fan base. Personally, I would like to see her music categorized more with Joan Jett and Lita Ford than Britney and the Spice Girls. She's actually done a cover of one of Joan Jett's songs (Bad Reputation), and did a great job. She's also belted out cover songs of Metallica and Green Day. With rock n' roll making a solid comeback, she could really lead the way for female artists. The term 'rock n' roll' is listed on many articles of clothing from her Abbey Dawn line, so let's hear it, Avril. I wanna hear her belt out some solid tunes like she did on Let Go and Under My Skin. And, no, I wasn't a huge fan of The Best Damn Thing or it's first single 'Girlfriend'. The term 'bubble gum' was widely used to describe the song and the album. Her newest release Goodbye Lullaby isn't too bad, and has some good songs on it, but it's still criticized. I like it because it's real and you can feel what she was going through when she wrote most of it. With her next album, though, she has a chance to really put the critics to bed and release a really solid rock album.
